Michael McDonald, Ben Rothwell and Travis Browne are UFC 145?s Three Stars

UFC 145 was a top-heavy card, with most of the pre-fight discussion focused on the main event of Rashad Evans vs. Jon Jones. However, some of the undercard still managed to stand out with memorable performances. [UFC 145 recap: Jon Jones' length crucia...

Antonio Silva to face Cain Velasquez at UFC 146

When Frank Mir was given a title shot at UFC 146 in place of Alistair Overeem, several dominoes started to fall in the UFC heavyweight division. Mir was supposed to face Cain Velasquez in Las Vegas on May 26. Since he's fighting Junior dos Santos, Velasquez will face Antonio "Big Foot" Silva, who will be making his UFC debut after a career in Strikeforce and Elite XC. Roy Nelson, who was supposed to fight Silva, is now opponent-less, but is expected to remain on the card.

Got that?

As it stands now, UFC 146 still has an all-heavyweight main card, but the UFC has to scramble to find an opponent for Nelson for a bout that is just 34 days away. Here are all the main card bouts:

Junior Dos Santos vs. Frank Mir
Antonio Silva vs. Cain Velasquez
Roy Nelson vs. TBA
Shane Del Rosario vs. Gabriel Gonzaga
Mark Hunt vs. Stefan Struve

THE ULTIMATE FIGHTER LIVE REPORT 4/20: Penick's random thoughts on seventh episode on FX

THE ULTIMATE FIGHTER: LIVE
APRIL 20, 2012
LIVE FROM LAS VEGAS, NEVADA

-As always, we open with tonight's live fight competitors walking into the arena before the recap of last week. Things are definitely getting smoother with the show.

-The consensus was that Chris Tickle was up last week prior to getting taken out by submission. Faber's team is up for the first time this season. Should be another good fight this week with John Cofer against Vinc Pichel.

-After the title sequence, we get the aftermath of last week's fight. Cruz chastises Tickle for failing to listen to the team. He went off on him a bit for the loss. Cruz said he'd never yell at someone for a loss if they didn't deserve it, and he felt Tickle deserved it.

-More back and forth as Faber tried to tell Tickle he did a good job, and he and Faber started jawing back and forth. Those two really don't like each other.

-Tickle took exception to Cruz saying he didn't have heart, and went off himself over that notion, noting what he left at home to be in this house. Faber's team also criticized the way Cruz handled the post-fight with Tickle, saying that's not the way you deal with a loss.

[Commercial Break]

-Back in the house, Andy Ogle's going crazy, having messed up dreams about things happening back home. Time away from family and cut off from the world can do interesting things to a person.

-Onto training with Faber. Ogle's still having difficulties, and it's bleeding through into training. Anxiety's hitting him hard here. They've already been in the house for more time than any previous season, it's going to be an issue for a lot of these guys.

-Have to feel for Ogle here. He's trying to hold it together, but keeping his composure in front of the cameras is a lot easier said than done when he's breaking down mentally a bit.

[Commercial Break]

-Cruz training session and a bit of background on Pichel. He's from a "tough love" family where he felt he was the "bad seed." He impressed in the elimination round, very interested to see how he does tonight. Cruz says the key for him is stuffing the takedowns tonight.

-Ogle's not the only one having issues. Sam Sicilia is getting anxious as well, adding pressures on himself for being the second pick on Team Cruz. He's not handling the pressure that well right now.

-Back to the house, and Ogle - still not dealing with things well - talks a bit about Sicilia and the bond he has with Ogle's teammate Michael Chiesa.

[Commercial Break]

-We're back to Faber's team in training. Faber gives his guy - John Cofer - the edge due to his takedowns and wrestling game. Ogle and Chiesa talk things out and Chiesa convinces Ogle he's not passing things to Sicilia. Ogle is letting things get to him, but he's trying to change his mindset.

-Weigh-in time. Both on weight for tonight's fight. Each team as always has confidence in their guys.

-Dana White comes in and lets everyone know that they're a week away from being the longest time in the house of any season. White brings up UFC 145's Rashad Evans as an example of what this show can do. He assures those who are truly ready to be pro fighters going forward that there is light at the end of the tunnel, and they can get through it. Fight coming up next.

[Commercial Break]

FIGHT: JOHN COFER VS. VINC PICHEL

ROUND ONE: Tentative start from each led to a nice exchange of strikes. Cofer attempted a takedown briefly but let it go. Cofer got in with an uppercut and a nice short punch. Cofer landed a couple more and backed out. Cofer landed a jab. Pichel got in a counter right. Cofer landed a short combo. Pichel pressed in, but Cofer got right back at him. Cofer landed a nice short leg kick. They traded strikes again in the center. Cofer landed a good uppercut. He landed a nice combination. Pichel tried to press in. Cofer attempted a takedown but was stuffed. Pichel landed a punch on the release. They traded strikes again. Pichel was cut open. Cofer grabbed a leg, then landed a knee in the clinch. He separated with a right. They traded strikes to the horn.

Penick's Scorecard: 10-9 Cofer. He was landing more strikes overall, and pressed the pace decently. Fairly even round, though.

[Commercial Break]

ROUND TWO: Cofer hurt Pichel early, but Pichel stayed upright. He then hurt Cofer with a short rush but Cofer lost his mouth piece and the action was halted. As they restarted they traded strikes again. Pichel landed a hard left as Cofer overshot on a punch. Cofer landed a leg kick. Cofer landed a nice left counter that snapped Pichel's head. They traded punches again. Cofer went for a takedown, but got stuffed. He took Pichel's back standing and landed some knees to the thighs. Pichel broke free from the position and landed a nice left. Pichel then went for a takedown, but he got stuffed on the cage. Pichel landed a slam finally and put Cofer on his back. Cofer threw up a triangle, but Pichel got out. They stalled for a bit on the ground. They traded strikes from the top and bottom as Pichel was in a backward mount. Cofer turned to end the frame, and I think we'll see a third round.

Penick's Scorecard: 10-9 Pichel. I think we'll see a third round here, hopefully it's not a five minute delay like the last time this happened.

[Commercial Break]

-We are getting a third round

ROUND THREE: Cofer was cut open under the left eye. Pichel unloaded early to start the third round and took Cofer down against the cage. He passed to mount, locked on an arm triangle choke, and forced the tap. Cofer was gassed after that second round, and the season is tied up at three wins apiece.

[Commercial Break]

WINNER: Pichel via submission (arm triangle choke) at :44 of the third round

-After the always awkward post-fight interviews, Dana White gave a lot of appreciation to the fight, and said the judges got it right sending it to round three.

-Onto the fight pick, Cruz picks Sam Sicilia to take on Chris Saunders. That comes next week.

-Thanks for joining us again tonight, we'll be back with TUF: Live coverage next Friday night, but make sure to tune in tomorrow as we've got you covered for UFC 145 coverage all night long!

Dana White hints at B.J. Penn returning to the ring

It may be far from an official announcement but signs continue to indicate former double-divisional champion B.J. Penn is leaning towards returning to the ring after deciding to hang up his gloves this past October. Though Penn still seemed on the fence when asked about it a week ago after UFC on Fuel 2, the popular Hawaiian also admitted he?d been back in the gym training, and apparently for good cause too, at least according to UFC President Dana White.

?I heard some sh*t that he said he was going to retire and all this stuff. I talked to him, and he?s like, ?I want to fight again,?? said White in a conversation with MMAJunkie after last night?s UFC 145 festivities had concluded.

White didn?t elaborate further, even indicating what weight-class the surefire Hall of Famer would compete at if Penn does end his impromptu retirement. The 33-year old has held both the lightweight and welterweight titles, preferring the comfort of 170 pounds but enjoying a bit more success at 155 based on his physical dimensions. Penn hasn?t tipped his hand in that regard either, saying both are possibilities in a scenario where he comes back to competing in the cage.

An emotionally drained Penn retired after coming up short against Nick Diaz at UFC 137, citing a desire to spend more time with his family and expressing displeasure at his performance in the one-sided decision defeat to Diaz.

Dan Henderson beats up Cung Le ? in a movie (VIDEO)

Dan Henderson and Cung Le both have long fight careers, but they've never faced each other. The movie "Dragon Eyes" changed that, as Hendo got his licks in against Le. Skip to the 1:25 mark to miss the dubbed-over dialogue and see Hendo do his thing.

Dragon Eyes also stars Jean Claude Van Damme and Peter Weller. Apparently, Le's character gets to save the world. From IMDB:

In St. Jude, drug dealers and corrupt cops have destroyed an urban neighborhood. But newcomer, Hong, has the fighting skills and moral vision to save this town from itself.

He is the man who will fight for your honor. Wait, that's a different movie. Dragon Eyes comes out May 12.

Thanks, Fightlinker.

Thiago Silva takes out Keith Jardine in the Knockout of the Week

After a year-long suspension due to steroid use and submitting a synthetic urine sample, Thiago Silva will return against Alexander Gustaffson at UFC on Fuel 2 in Sweden. Since it's been a while, here's a reminder of what he can do.

With a left hook, Silva took out Keith Jardine. He lost to Rashad Evans and then had his win over Brandon Vera turned into a no-contest after the positive drug test. Will he start his post-suspension career with a win? Tell us in the comments, on Facebook or on Twitter.

Pictures of the Day: Rashad Evans and famous people

As Rashad Evans trained for this Saturday's title bout with Jon Jones, something about his camp attracted famous people.
Rashad Evans shared this picture of when football Hall of Famer Michael Irvin dropped by their camp. Do you think they're discussing the draft position of Chandler Jones?

During a trip to Puerto Rico, Evans met up with boxing legend Felix Trinidad. It was pretty rude to punch the camera, gentlemen.

Here, Evans is with Victoria Azarenka, the No. 1 ranked tennis player in the world and the winner of the 2012 Australian Open. As shown on "Primetime," he also was in the stands for one of her matches.
Before Evans' UFC 133 bout with Tito Ortiz, he picked up striking tips from another boxing legend. What advice do you thin Bernard Hopkins had for Evans?

UFC's Brock Lesnar's Sickness: An Intestinal Disorder?

No specifics have been disclosed about Brock Lesnar's controversial sickness that caused him to withdraw from his match with Shane Carwin for UFC 106 and subsequently UFC 108, but UFC president Dana White hints of the possibility that Lesnar "will never fight again."

Lesnar began a career in mixed martial arts and had his first fight in June 2007. He then signed with the Ultimate Fighting Championship in October 2007. Upon signing with the organization he had an unsuccessful debut against Frank Mir, but has since remained undefeated, capturing the UFC Heavyweight Championship from Randy Couture on November 15, 2008 and avenging his earlier loss to Mir by way of a second round TKO at UFC 100.

Most recently, it has been reported that Lesnar is suffering from mono, a viral disease, plus something else uncertain but grave. It's been speculated, though, that Lesnar is battling an intestinal disorder so intense that he will probably undergo serious surgery. There are also rumors that Lesnar's sickness may be the result of the long term use of steroids.

"Leaving Bismarck, N.D., right now. Brock had minor surgery and is feeling better. Not 100 percent sure he is out of the woods but feeling better," White said on Twitter.

This has been an nightmare for UFC considering that Brock Lesnar isn't the only one who has been hit with injuries and infections recently. Former champ Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira has had a staph infection while Shane Carwin, who was supposed to face Lesnar at this weekend's UFC 106, has an MCL injury.

Man Utd boss Alex Ferguson: Olympics put my plans in chaos

The furious Manchester United chief has been told TEN of his squad are in the frame to be for Stuart Pearce?s 18-man squad.

He will not know for sure until the end of May which of them will make the cut from the current list of 80.

David de Gea and Javier Hernandez have already been told they will play for their own countries at the London Games in early August.

With five United youngsters also due to play for England?s Under-19s in the summer, Fergie?s preparations for the 2012-13 season could be in disarray.

The United boss rapped: ?Only 10 nominated! It?s a joke. It?s ridiculous, there are so many complications.

?You?ve got the European Championships and our pre-season tour. Paul Scholes hasn?t been nominated but Ryan Giggs, Wayne Rooney, Ashley Young, Danny Welbeck, Chris Smalling, Phil Jones and Tom Cleverley ? Jesus Christ.

?It is bloody serious. It?s the start of the season. I haven?t got a say in it but if the players don?t want to go there is nothing they can do about it.

?Then one of the England youth teams, the U-19s, are in a competition and the FA have nominated five.

?We were intending to take them with us on our pre-season tour so it?s utter chaos, absolute chaos.

?Jonny Evans is included too. We have 10 nominated by Britain plus two with other countries and the five with England Under 19?s. It?s ridiculous.?

Ferguson did not reveal the 10th name nominated but it is likely to be Michael Carrick.

He, Michael Owen, Rio Ferdinand, plus the ill Darren Fletcher, are the other first-teamers who are British.

Those picked for England at the Euros will not then be involved in the Olympics.

But the latest announcement means Fergie could see most of his squad disappear to one tournament or the other.

Fergie already fears he could have a shortage of keepers for the pre-season and possibly for the start of the new campaign as players will need a break.

He added: ?One of those nominated is our young keeper Ben Amos which leaves us only one goalkeeper Anders Lindegaard to start the season with.

?De Gea is definitely in the Olympics for Spain so we are missing a keeper.

?I have no jurisdiction over De Gea, it is up to the players. But at this stage of his career I don?t think it?s a bad thing for him anyway.

?Javier Hernandez is definitely in the Mexican squad, so that?s two ? and the 10 nominated by Team GB.?

On top of that, the Da Silva twins ? Rafael and Fabio ? have also expressed an interest in playing for Brazil.

United are yet to unveil a pre-season itinerary but are expecting to play fixtures in the Far East and South Africa.

Ferguson added: ?I?ve no idea how badly other clubs are affected but I would imagine Tottenham with Bale, Defoe, Walker, Lennon, Dawson ? they will have a few.?

The Scot, whose title-chasing team tackle Everton at home today, was happy that Scholes will not be involved with Team GB.

However, he hinted the 37-year-old could continue his fairytale comeback and play for another season.

Ferguson said: ?I?m not going to ask him until the end of the season.

?He?s relishing playing again. He?s been marvellous.?

With the veteran involved, they have taken 37 from a possible 39 points since he returned in January.

Fergie added: ?He brings a calmness to the game and he dictates the tempo of matches for us.?
